Robert Sarver has been forced out as the owner of both the Phoenix Mercury and the Suns. Why do many owners seemingly think it’s acceptable to mistreat those who work for them? Is it the byproduct of power, greed, the feeling of entitlement, and the belief that their lawyers can get them out of any situation? The marks of a great leader are humility, loyalty, not taking advantage of others because of their position, allowing associates the chance to succeed, and giving credit where it’s due. A prime example of how an owner should act toward his organization is Peter O’Malley, who cared about his Dodger employees, reflected in the loyalty to the team shown by those such as Vin Scully, who stayed with the Dodgers for 70 years. How many more owners will choose the behavior of Robert Sarver over that of Peter O’Malley? Will they take heed of the repercussions?

Seasoned broadcaster Al Michaels and his new on-air partner Kirk Herbstreit experienced many technical difficulties last week on Amazon Prime. Will Amazon be able to work out the bugs to improve the viewing experience going forward? So far, Michaels’ pairing with Herbstreit hasn’t shown the camaraderie he’s demonstrated with other commentators. Do they have any chemistry, or was that down to problems with the technology?

Maury Wills, best remembered as a phenomenal shortstop for the Dodgers, passed away this week. He changed the game of baseball with his penchant for stealing bases (his record was 104 in a single season) to the cheers of fans shouting “go, go, go!” whenever he got to first base, repeatedly turning walks into triples. Wills, the thinking man’s player, was on three World Series teams with the Dodgers, earned the National League MVP award, and truly cared about people, but often fell victim to his personal demons. Is it an oversight that he hasn’t been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame yet, and will that be remedied now that he’s gone?
