A Tough Week for the NFL

Aaron Rodgers has tested positive for Covid. He said he had the vaccine in August, and apparently, he didn’t. In the NFL, if you’re vaccinated, you aren’t subjected to a lot of Covid testing, whereas the unvaccinated are tested at least four times a week. Rodgers put everyone at risk by giving a false vaccination status, as he was subsequently able to fly under the testing radar. Are there two sets of rules where the elite players get preferential treatment over the rank-and-file? Are the powers that be at Green Bay complicit? Will they suspend Rodgers? Arizona and Green Bay both had players with Covid, yet the teams played. The NFL has some very tough decisions ahead over the next two months, with the upcoming Super Bowl due to be played at the new SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and 75% of the proposed corporate attendees saying they aren’t going to attend. Will the possible loss of revenue make a difference?

22-year-old Henry Ruggs of the Las Vegas Raiders caused a horrific crash that resulted in the death of another driver, driving over 150 miles an hour while under the influence of alcohol. He was released on $150,000 bail, and under Nevada law, is facing 2-20 years in prison. The Raiders fired Ruggs after the incident to try and distance themselves from the tragedy, but he was part of the organization when it happened. Shouldn’t sports teams be responsible for preparing young players to be able to handle the enormous wealth and extravagant lifestyle that accompany being a player on the national stage, and try to curb some of the reckless behavior that seems to go hand-in-hand with sudden fame?

Are Chip Kelly’s days at UCLA numbered? The last games of the season will be crucial for him. The Bruins had so much potential in the first four games, but seem to have imploded since. What happened?

USC’s wide receiver Drake London is expected to make a full recovery from his season-ending leg injury. Are great things ahead for him in the NFL?

The Atlanta Braves were stuck in August and turned everything around to win the World Series. Will their free agents, Jorge Soler, Eddie Rosario, Freddie Freeman, return?
