Retired Judge Joe Hilberman, one of the most highly regarded mediators and arbitrators in the field, is known for his deep knowledge of the mediation process, as well as being creative and insightful. In this episode Judge Hilberman joins Len Levy to share the story of a mother’s loss of her daughter in a fatal car crash with an unmarked police car, the mediation he conducted, and what it took to overcome the obstacles to resolution.

Judge Joe Hilberman served on the Los Angeles Superior Court from 2002 through 2009 following a 27-year career in civil litigation. Judge Hilberman is currently a full-time mediator, arbitrator, and discovery referee with ADR Services, Inc., handling personal injury, employment, professional liability, business, real estate, homeowners’ association, and related disputes.

Judge Hilberman was recognized by the Los Angeles Chapter of ABOTA as “Jurist of the Year” in 2008 and consistently by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the “Top 50 Neutrals” in Southern California. His articles have appeared in publications of the Los Angeles Bar Association, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. He is also a frequent lecturer on topics of mediation and litigation.

A graduate of UCLA and the UCLA School of Law, Judge Hilberman served as President of the UCLA School of Law Alumni Association and on the board of directors of the UCLA Alumni Association.
