The first anniversary of Vin Scully’s death is just around the corner, and he is being remembered not only for his legendary talent in the booth but also for how he met the many devastating events that took place in his life with such equanimity, highlighting what a class act he was. He lost both of his wives, one to suicide and the other to ALS, as well as his son to a plane crash, and was able to impart such joy and kindness to the world despite the heartbreak he experienced behind the scenes. Vin’s professionalism was unrivaled, as was the singular way he shared his knowledge and talent with the world while remaining personable and humble, and the impressions he made on the lives he touched are still felt today.

The future of pro golf looks uncertain with the anti-trust allegations and government investigation that have become the main focus of both the PGA and LIV leagues. Are big changes ahead for the sport? There are eight months until Augusta and a lot of time for things to happen in the world of golf before then. Jay Monahan may not have a seat at the table with the PGA going forward after all of the recent events occurring within the Tour, and now Tiger Woods has landed a spot on the policy board. Will he seek to become commissioner or choose to stay out of the day-to-day running of the organization? Is Greg Norman’s position any more secure with the LIV if the merger with the PGA becomes a reality? Are the players growing increasingly distrustful of those in charge? Does the fact that it is more of a niche sport contribute to the current troubles? Golf largely succeeds from being supported by corporate sponsorships, but with fewer tournaments to engage with the public, the general audience across demographics is dramatically smaller. As it is an expensive sport to play, should there be a more concerted effort to create ways to encourage participation on an amateur level to make it more accessible to the everyday fan?
