In this episode, Mike chats with Larry Cabaldon, President of The Private Directors Association of Southern California. They discuss the dynamic and valuable role the PDA plays for private businesses to foster exemplary board practices and to source top candidates for companies.

Larry Cabaldon is the founder of Boardroom Performance Group. He started his career at Union Bank with a group of 50 management trainees, many of whom moved to top management positions at Wells Fargo, as described in the book “Good to Great”. He was Director of Executive Search for Pricewaterhouse Coopers and a Director of Human Resources for a 400 employee one-bank holding company.

Larry headed his own executive assessment, board consulting, and executive recruiting firm serving clients such as Bank of America, Security Pacific Corporation, Wells Fargo, Arco, Paramount Studios, and other organizations. He was assessed at over 500 executives and board members.

He then moved on to DHR International, a Big 5 retained executive search firm, to serve as Executive Vice President in Irvine, California, and as a member of the firm’s Board & CEO Practice. Over six years ago, Larry saw another economic crisis emerging that would severely affect boards, so he left DHR International to launch Boardroom Performance Group, http://www.boardroomperformancegroup.com/ to help boards survive and prosper, particularly in this era of economic and governance crisis.

Larry has addressed CEOs on the topics of “How to Assess Fiduciary Performance”, “Board’s Role in Mergers & Acquisitions”, “Board Succession Planning: How to Create a High-Performance Bank”, “Governance Post-Enron” and “Creating a Proud Legacy of Leadership and Value”. He spoke on “Surviving the Crunch” at the California Bankers Association and, more recently, to the VC Roundtable on “How to Create High-Performance Boardroom in Tough Times”.

Larry’s expertise lies in helping boards/executives, regulators, investors, private equity firms, acquirers, venture capitalists, private companies, and non-profits benchmark performance, select and maximize talent, improve results, and facilitate transactions that create value.
